In this lesson, you will learn about U.S. Immigration Law, the creation of a border that runs between the U.S. and Mexico and the controversial Arizona State Law. You will create a thesis statement claiming that the U.S. shows Nativism in its policies, or that the U.S. does not show Nativim in their policies.
Tasks: 1) Do Now - Brain Dump 2) Summarize two Immigration Laws 3) Evaluate the creation of the Mexican Border and the Arizona Immigration Law 4) Create a thesis and conduct research to support your thesis 5) Write an essay and post it to a Blog
Process:
1) Do Now: Complete a "brain dump"
List in bullet form what you know about Nativism against immigrants today in the Discussion Tab of your Day 5 wiki
Read two of your peers Brain Dumps in their wikis
Add three ideas you agree with to your dump as another Discussion in your wiki
Refer to Day 1 in your wiki to revisit your initial answer to the question: Do you believe that there is prejudice against immigrants today? Do you still have the same thoughts? At the end of this lesson you will write and defend a thesis to the same question.
2) Two Present U.S. Immigration Law
Read and Mark up the following article using the same procedure as you did in Day 2. Be sure you define words you do not know, and click on the highlighted text to find the meaning of the term.
Identify and upload one news articles or video. Some choices are:

Write a statement stating whether you support or oppose the Mexican Boarder Activity on Day 5 of your wiki
3. B.) Evaluate the Arizona Immigration Law
The new Arizona Law on immigration signed by Jan Brewer Governor of Arizona on April 20, 2010, has raised much controversy over civil rights of all Americans.

Watch the CNN video where Jan Brewer signs the bill requiring Arizona police to determine whether a person is in the United States legally. Governor Brewer explains her reasons supporting this law.
Write a statement on if you support or oppose the Arizona Immigration law on Day 5 of your wiki
4. Create a thesis statement taking a position on the Question:Do you believe that there is prejudice against immigrants (Nativism) today? and Why?
Use your evaluation of the above events/laws to create a thesis statement. Record your thesis in Day 5 of your wiki

5. Blogging your Essay
Using evidence from your research and the Events/Laws above, create an outline of a short essay to answer the question,Do you believe that there is prejudice against immigrants (Nativism) today? and Why? Post your outline in Day 5 of your Wiki.
